Alumni Musical: Production Info

Missed the interest meeting? Watch the recording here.

Rehearsal period: Early December 2026 through the end of March 2027.

Performances: March 26 to 28, 2027. We will have three or four performances: Friday evening, Saturday matinee, Saturday evening, and possibly Sunday, March 28 (Easter) around 5 PM. The final count and times will be announced soon.

Who can join: Bulldog Players alumni and current THS staff (you do not have to be a THS graduate). All positions are volunteer. Current Bulldog Players students will also be in the ensemble.

The show: Not picked yet. We have it narrowed down and will announce it after auditions, based on who auditions. It will most likely be a modern musical (after 1980).

Creative Team

  • Wesley Walker, director

  • Kathleen Acuña, music director (THS graduate, music teacher at Norris Elementary)

  • DJ Brown, conductor (currently conducting the national tour of Hell's Kitchen)

  • Beth Powers, rehearsal pianist

  • Maliyah Franklin, lighting

Auditions

  • Saturday, November 14, 10 AM to 4 PM, Room 601. 10-minute slots. Sign up here.

  • Prepare a full musical theater song written after 1980. Sing the whole song (no 16- or 32-bar cuts).

  • Bring a track or use our accompanist, if available.

  • You will read sides cold. Sides are handed to you right before your audition.

  • Can't make November 14? Contact Mr. Walker to set up a time before then, especially if you want a lead (callbacks are the next day). Video auditions are a last resort.

  • Callbacks: Sunday, November 15, 3 to 6 PM.

  • Everyone who auditions is cast, at minimum in the ensemble, as long as you pass the background check.

  • Casting emails go out within a week of callbacks. You have 24 hours to accept your role.

Rehearsals

  • First rehearsal: week of November 30. The full rehearsal calendar comes out around December 1.

  • Leads: Monday to Thursday, 6 to 9 PM, plus weekends. Not every lead is called every day, but plan to be available a lot (up to 24 hours a week).

  • Ensemble: Saturdays (10 AM to 4 PM) and Sundays (3 to 9 PM). The goal is one weekend day for most ensemble members, sometimes two. Expect more rehearsal in March. Tell us if you want both days and you can be in more numbers.

  • Crew: starts in February. Hours depend on the show.

  • Orchestra: you get your book early to practice on your own. Orchestra rehearsals happen during tech week, when DJ is in town.

  • No rehearsals over winter break unless something can only be done then.

  • Location: Room 601 and the THS auditorium.

Tech Week and Shows

  • Tech week: Sunday, March 21 to Thursday, March 25. Mandatory for every role. No exceptions.

  • Every performance is mandatory.

  • Strike is handled by students the following week.

Conflicts and Attendance

  • List every conflict you know of on your audition sign-up. The rehearsal calendar is built around them.

  • Recurring conflicts listed up front do not count as absences.

  • An absence is missing rehearsal without letting us know at least 48 hours ahead (illness excepted).

  • Maximum of 3 absences. 2 late arrivals count as 1 absence. More than 3 absences means you will be replaced.

  • Report absences to the stage manager.

Backstage Jobs Still Open

  • Stage manager and assistant stage manager

  • Set building and painting

  • Costumes, props, hair, and makeup (cast members handle most of their own)

  • Run crew: moving sets during rehearsals and performances

Cast members cannot also be on crew or in the orchestra.

FAQ

Does it cost anything?
Only basic costume pieces like socks and undergarments. A show shirt is optional.

Is there paperwork?
Yes. Everyone must complete the district volunteer form before Saturday, November 14. The background check has to be approved before rehearsals start, since you will be in the building with students.

I already did a volunteer form this school year (for band, etc.). Do I need another?
No. It is good for the whole school year.

Can I bring my kids to rehearsal?
Yes, as long as they are supervised and quiet. You can bring your own supervision, and we are looking at other options.

How will we communicate?
Slack, with separate channels for cast, crew, and orchestra. No group texts.

I have a question just about me.
Email Mr. Walker at walkerw@mcduffie.k12.ga.us.

Before November 14
